Travel Directions to 4IWSC & Columbia's Main Morningside Heights Campus

4IWSC will be held on the 15th Floor of the School of International and Public Affairs Building (SIPA) which is located on the campus of Columbia University at Amsterdam and West 118th Street. The entrance to SIPA is on the 118th St. Columbia University is located on the northern end (Uptown) of Manhattan, and is served by the #1 and the #9 subway lines which both stop at 116th St./Broadway (the main entrance to Columbia).

Note: Carman and Furnald Residence Halls are located nearby on Broadway and 114th St. See campus map.

Check in for both dorms is available 24 hours a day, and should be made at Carman Hall.

New York City is served by three major airports: LaGuardia, JFK and Newark. LaGuardia is the most convenient, then JFK and least convenient is Newark.

From the Airport:

Taxi:
The easiest way to reach Columbia University from the airport is by taxi. The average fare from LaGuardia Airport, the closest airport to the campus, is $30.  This includes tolls and tips.  Kennedy Airport has a flat fare of $45 to any single stop in Manhattan.  This does not include tolls and tip which will add another $10.  Taxi service from Newark Airport into Manhattan is about $65 including tolls and tip.

Bus or Train Service:
From LGA: The city M60 bus provides inexpensive service ($2.00) from LaGuardia Airport to Columbia University, but the trip may be time consuming.

From JFK:
Airtrain provides rail service from JFK with a link to the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) or the E Subway at Jamaica Station to Penn Station in New York (From Penn Station you can connect to the #1 or #9 uptown subway to Columbia 116th St.). The total cost is about $11-$13 depending on which option you take at Jamaica Station to get to Penn Station.

From Newark (EWR)
: AirTrain provides rail service from Newark Airport to New York Penn Station (from which one can take the #1 or #9 Subway to Columbia). The trip takes 45-60 minutes and costs $11.55  per person + $2.00 (for the subway).

By Car
The most convenient route to Columbia is the 95th/96th  Street exit of the Henry Hudson Parkway (West Side Highway).  Use the 95th Street off ramp and turn left onto Riverside Drive.  Proceed north (uptown) to 116th Street.  A right turn at 116th Street leads you to the campus gate.

Although street parking can be occasionally found in the neighborhood (check no parking signs carefully), the following parking garages are located in the Columbia neighborhood:

By Public Transportation (within Manhattan):

Subway:
The #1 and #9 train stops at the Columbia University station at West 116thStreet and Broadway, and also stops at both Pennsylvania Station (34th Street) and the Port Authority Bus Terminal (42nd  Street). From Grand Central Station shuttle service is available to Times Square, where it is possible to transfer to the #1 or #9 local. The express ( #3 or #2 ) stop at the 96th Street station where it is necessary to cross the platform and board the local. For a map of the subway routes see the MTA subway map.

Bus:
Four bus lines (M4, M5, M11, M104) serve the Columbia neighborhood and stop within a block of the campus. Cross-town buses connect with the #1 #9 train on Broadway or Seventh Avenue. Note, the #11 is particulalry convenient for those coming from the Lucerne Hotel, as is travels up Amsterdam, and has a stop just north of 118th St and the SIPA building which is the Workshop site.
