FHWA Cable Corrosion Chamber Commissioning

04/11/2009

With great fanfare and under the watchful eyes of the media, Raimondo Betti, Dyab Khazem, and Mark Carlos pushed the fateful button to officially inaugurate the first full-size bridge cable corrosion chamber under axial tension in the world. The ceremony provided insights into the capabilities of this new state-of-the-art machine, which will help to further our understanding of bridge cable corrosion processes as a whole, as well as validate an efficient sensor fusion scheme that may be implemented in both existing and new bridges. The Carleton Lab is thrilled to see the last two years of hard work and coordination pay off.
