Professor George Deodatis Introduces New Course on “The Art of Structural Design”

The Department of Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics is introducing a new professional-level course entitled "The Art of Structural Design." It will be taught by Professor George Deodatis starting in the Spring Semester of 2009. The course emphasizes the interaction between the technical, socioeconomic and aesthetic components of the design of large-scale structures. It provides a broad historical perspective of the major advances in the field from the beginning of the industrial revolution until the present. It is aiming at attracting students from the School of Engineering and Applied Science, Columbia College and Barnard College. It has no prerequisites.
