ASCE President Dr. William F. Marcuson III Delivers Burmister Lecture

The president for the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Dr. William F. Marcuson III, visited Columbia University on October 9, 2007, and delivered the Burmister Lecture. Dr. Marcuson gave an account of the state of practice of the seismic design and analysis of embankment dams. He served as director of the Geotechnical Laboratory at the U.S. Army Engineer Waterways Experiment Station for nearly 20 years before retirement in 2000. Dr. Marcuson won many prestigious national awards, including the 1999 Terzaghi Lecture, and was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in1996.
