Engineering Mechanics at Columbia Ranked 6th in U.S.A. by Chronicle of Higher Education

The Chronicle of Higher Education rankings for faculty productivity in 2007 were recently publicized announcing that the Engineering Mechanics program at Columbia University was sixth ranked in the United States. The School of Engineering and Applied Science was among more than 375 universities offering a full Ph.D. program that were included in the ranking. Program faculty rankings were based on a number of factors including; journal publications per faculty member, citations per paper, percentage of faculty getting a new grant, and total value of new grants per faculty, among other measures. The Engineering Mechanics faculty was ranked first in journal publications per faculty member. This ranking reflects the strong tradition of solid mechanics research in the department.
