Dr. James G. Berryman
Dr. Jim Berryman received his Ph.D. in physics from the
University of Wisconsin in 1975. He
subsequently worked in the oil industry, at the Courant Institute NYU, and at
Bell Labs, before moving to California in 1981.
He was then a Physicist for 25 years at the Lawrence Livermore National
Laboratory in Livermore, CA. He is
currently a Geological Senior Scientist in the Earth Sciences Division at the
Lawrence Berkeley National Lab in Berkeley, CA.
Jim received the ASCE Maurice Anthony Biot Medal for his work in
poroelasticity in 2005. Besides his work
on poroelasticity, he has also worked extensively on effective medium theories
of heterogeneous media, inverse problems for imaging of heterogeneous media,
and time-reversal acoustics and electromagnetics for applications to imaging,
identification, and communications. He
is a member of the American Physical Society, the Society of Exploration
Geophysics, and the American Geophysical Union.
