Carleton Laboratory Supports Oklahoma Instrumentation Project
9/25/2009

25 September marks the successful conclusion of a collaborative effort between Columbia University and Oklahoma University in the structural health monitoring of a multi-span precast concrete girder bridge in southeastern Oklahoma. CEEM faculty and Carleton staff shared their expertise in vibration instrumentation with their colleagues at Oklahoma University, especially when applied to large civil structures, a specialty of both the Carleton Laboratory and faculty of CEEM.
The instrumentation deployed by the Carleton team has allowed researchers to gain new insights into the dynamics of the bridge as well as many like it under a number of different loading scenarios. The recorded data set will allow both the owner (ODOT) as well as researchers gain further insights into the service performance of these structures throughout their service life.
