Rimas Vaicaitis is an expert in vibrations and structural dynamics. He
is the Director of the Guggenheim Air Flight Structures Institute at
Columbia University. He holds a patent for an acoustic guide to
noise-transmission testing of aircraft. His current research interests
are the nonlinear dynamic response of composite panels and sonic fatigue
of thermal surface protection systems of high speed aircraft,
transmission of structure-borne noise, nonlinear response and
noise-transmission of double wall sandwich panels and shells, and passive and
active control. In addition, he has studied the response of tall buildings to
wind loading, random motion of suspension bridges subject to buffeting
and self-excited wind loads, structural reliability of building window
panels, dynamic analysis of fixed offshore structures subjected to wind
generated waves, crack growth prediction, and random processes for earthquake
applications.
