From the chairman:

Dear members of SC1: Minutes from the meeting in Rome is available for download below. The invitation and agenda were as follows:

I would like to inform you that our annual meeting will take place as scheduled during the ICOSSAR Conference in Rome. The committee meeting will take place on Sunday, June 19th in the Faculty of Engineering (Via Eudossiana 18) in and around the Renaissance Cloister of the Monastery of San Pietro in Vincoli. The scheduled time is 14:30 to 16:30, followed by the Umbrella Committee meeting at 16:30. For further information, please refer to the conference web site. I believe that the specific room in the Faculty of Engineering will be announced later on the web site.

The items on the agenda so far include the activities of SC1 during ICOSSAR 2005 (mainly session and symposium organizing), membership, and the formation of new working groups.

I know that the formation of new working groups was announced last summer in Albuquerque, but because of the effort involved with the organization of ICOSSAR, very little was done. After ICOSSAR is completed, we are planning to jump start the activities of the working groups. Three new working groups have been formed with the following tentative participation from committee members:

1) Analysis of Stochastic Structural Systems with Very Large Number of Degrees-of-Freedom: Jim Beck, Joel Conte, Dan Chiocel, Ivan Au.
2) Computational Challenges in Random Micromechanics: Sanjay Arwade, Massimilaino Gioffre, Lori Graham, Steve Koutsourelakis, Mircea Grigoriu.
3) Risk Assessment of Civil Infrastructure Systems Subjected to Multiple Hazards and Mitigation Through Various Financial Instruments: Jim Beck, George Deodatis, Anne Kiremidjian, Howard Kunreuther.

The main objective of each working group is to write a state-of-the-art report that will be submitted for publication in a technical journal as was done in the past. During our meeting, coordinators will be selected for each one of the three groups. If you are still interested in participating in any of these groups, please let me know. We need more members in each group.
If you would like to discuss any other issues, you can either email me or simply bring your ideas to the meeting.

Looking forward to seeing you in Rome this summer!

Sincerely,

George Deodatis
