JSCE President Pays a Visit to CEEM

The President of the Japan Society of Civil Engineers (JSCE), Mr. Noriaki Hirose, pays a visit to the Department of Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics (CEEM) on October 13. Mr. Hirose is accompanied by Dr. Yoshihiro Katsuhama, the Assistant Manager for Membership and Planning Division of JSCE.

Professor George Deodatis, the Chairman of CEEM welcomes the delegates at his office. The meeting is joined by several other faculty members (Professors Masanobu Shinozuka, Maria Feng, and Hoe Ling) who have long-term collaborations with the Japanese institutions. They exchange information about ongoing major construction projects in the US and Japan, as well as some recent research topics and courses within CEEM. Mr. Hirose and Dr. Katsuhama are then led by Dr. Liming Li to tour the testing facilities in Carleton Laboratory.

Mr. Noriaki Hirose is also the Representative Director and Chairman for Nippon Koei Co., Ltd., which is the largest engineering consultant company in Japan.
