Mr. Lei Xu, a PhD Graduate student, has been awarded a $5,000 Geosynthetics Institute (GSI) Fellowship grant for his research proposal on the centrifuge modeling of geosynthetic-reinforced soil retaining walls.
GSI has recently issued a worldwide call for requests-for-proposals focusing on innovative geosynthetics research and development projects. Emphasis was placed on relevant topics of interest and/or concern to the geosynthetics community. GSI is an international consortium of organizations interested in and involved with geosynthetics. It was founded by Professor Robert M. Koerner, who is a pioneer and authority in geosynthetic materials.
Lei Xu obtained his Bachelor’s and master’s degrees from University of Alaska-Fairbanks and Columbia University, respectively. His has been working under the supervision of Professor Hoe Ling on his graduate research, focusing on the behavior of geosynthetic-reinforced soil retaining walls.
