Anthony J. Pensiero

Anthony J. Pensiero is the recipient of the 2017 George Wendell Memorial Medal. This Medal was established in 1924 by the alumni and faculty friends of the late Professor George Vincent Wendell to honor and perpetuate his memory. Each year, the SEAS faculty nominate one student from each department who they believe best exemplifies his ideals of character, scholarship, and service. The nominees are then presented to members of the SEAS senior class who vote to determine the winner.

Anthony Pensiero said, “I did not expect to receive this prestigious award because there were so many deserving nominees that have made major contributions to the Columbia community! I was honored to receive the department's nomination and grateful for the support of my fellow classmates. I hope only that I can continue to serve them in the remainder of my Columbia career.” Obviously, he strives every day to push past his potential in improving the community and the organizations that he is a part of.

Anthony Pensiero is from Commack, Long Island. He is interested in structural engineering and construction management. He will continue his master’s study at Columbia in structural engineering, and will be working for WSP|Parsons Brinckerhoff in the meantime. On campus, he has served as president of Lambda Phi Epsilon (a social fraternity), fundraising and development coordinator for Camp Kesem (a nonprofit organization for children with parents affected by cancer), president of the Columbia chapter of the American Society of Civil engineers, and a member of Tau Beta Pi (the engineering honor society).
