Congratulations to Haim Waisman, Chair of the Department, on Receiving the 2025 USACM Fellow Award

We are proud to congratulate Professor Haim Waisman, Chair of Columbia University’s Department of Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics, on being named a 2025 Fellow of the United States Association for Computational Mechanics (USACM).

The prestigious Fellow Award honors individuals with a distinguished record of research, accomplishment, and leadership in the field of computational mechanics, as well as dedicated service to the USACM community. Waisman was recognized “for the development of novel finite element methods in fracture and damage mechanics, multiphysics problems and topology optimization of structures, and for promoting computational mechanics in the U.S. and abroad.”

The award was presented at the 18th U.S. National Congress on Computational Mechanics (USNCCM18), held in Chicago, Illinois, on July 21, 2025.

The Columbia Engineering community congratulates Professor Waisman on this well-deserved recognition and celebrates his contributions to advancing computational mechanics worldwide.
