PhD Candidate, Tymon Nieduzak, Wins Three Prestigious Research Awards

First Place Best Paper Award

Congratulations to Engineering Mechanics PhD Candidate, Tymon Nieduzak, for winning first place in both the Best Paper Awards and the Student Poster Competition at the Society of Plastics Engineers Automotive Composites Conference & Exhibition (SPE ACCE 2025). His prototype has also been awarded the Most Innovative Production Part Award in the Material Innovation Competition. 

The award-winning paper, titled “Multi-Functional Composites for Battery Enclosure Structures – Self-Health Monitoring Technology”, was co-authored by Nieduzak, Dr Luke Demo, Professor Maria Feng, and Dr Venkat Aitharaju (General Motors). 

Nieduzak also received Graduate First Place in the Student Poster Competition, further underscoring the excellence of his scholarly work.

Collaborating with General Motors, CSP, Coats Group, Michigan State University, and the University of Southern California, Nieduzak's team also developed a prototype hybrid composite enclosure with embedded sensors, which has been awarded the Most Innovative Production Part Award in the Material Innovation Competition. 

These honors showcase Nieduzak and his team's exceptional research contributions to the advancement of smart composite technologies. They reflect the power of interdisciplinary collaboration in shaping the future of safe, reliable, and scalable electrified transportation systems.
