Recent work from the ICON Lab (Intelligent Construction Lab) has gained recognition at two leading robotics gatherings, highlighting the lab’s contributions to the growing field of construction robotics.

On October 3, Professor Zhengbo Zou delivered the keynote talk "Two Years to Build, Fifty to Maintain: Robot Learning for Construction and Facility Operations" at the Northeast Robotics Colloquium (NERC) at Princeton University. The annual gathering brings together researchers and professionals from across the robotics community, and Zou was invited to share insights into recent developments in construction robotics, including work emerging from the ICON Lab. His participation provided an opportunity to introduce advances in construction automation to a broader robotics audience and highlight the unique challenges and opportunities of applying robotics to the built environment.

The ICON Lab also recently participated in the IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS) in Pittsburgh, one of the field’s premier international robotics conferences. The lab’s research received notable recognition when one of its papers was included on a robotics researcher’s “must-read” list for the conference. The recognition reflects the impact of the team’s research and the hard work of the students who contributed to the project, demonstrating that their work is gaining visibility and appreciation among peers in the broader robotics community.

Together, these accomplishments underscore the ICON Lab’s growing presence at the intersection of robotics, construction, and civil engineering, while showcasing CEEM’s contributions to advancing innovative technologies for the future of construction.

Congratulations to Zhengbo Zou and the entire ICON Lab team on these exciting achievements and well-deserved recognition!
