We are thrilled to announce that the Columbia University Chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) has been awarded the Zvi Galil Award for Improvement in Engineering Student Life. The award, which was presented at the Leadership and Excellence Awards Ceremony in summer, recognizes the chapter’s contributions to enhancing engineering student life on campus.
The Zvi Galil Award - established in 2008 and named after a former Dean of The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science - is selected each spring by the Dean and acknowledges a student group that has shown exceptional commitment to expanding the awareness of the engineering field and the engineering community on campus.
Columbia ASCE is dedicated to offering students opportunities to explore civil engineering through a variety of social, academic, and professional activities. From alumni panels and professor happy hours to site visits and skyscraper competitions, ASCE strives to enrich the student experience while building connections between members, faculty, and industry professionals in New York City and beyond.
Looking ahead, this award marks an exciting turning point for ASCE’s future. The Zvi Galil Award is not only an acknowledgment of the chapter’s hard work but also a springboard for new initiatives. One of ASCE’s goals this academic year is to relaunch the Steel Bridge Team, a major project that will bring students together in a hands-on, collaborative competition.
