As the Co-Presidents of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Chapter, Stephanie Heggli-Nonay (SEAS ’25) and Alicia Garin Vila (SEAS ’24) represented Columbia University at ASCE’s Multi-Region Leadership Conference in Charlotte, North Carolina, in January. The conference was a great opportunity for the Co-Presidents to meet accomplished professionals as well as young engineers and learn about their inspiring journeys in the civil engineering industry. Stephanie and Alicia gained new perspectives on the trends and challenges currently influencing civil engineering and their role as young engineers in shaping the future. They also connected with other student leaders from across the country and collaborated with them to brainstorm effective and innovative ways to lead student chapters.
Stephanie and Alicia returned to campus feeling especially motivated to continue improving and expanding Columbia University’s ASCE Chapter and are already hard at work with the rest of the Board to organize exciting events!
