The construction industry is changing rapidly as artificial intelligence, digital technologies, and sustainability reshape how infrastructure projects are planned and delivered. According to Professor Ibrahim Odeh, Columbia Engineering is preparing future construction leaders by combining technical knowledge with leadership, real-world experience, and an understanding of emerging technologies.

Odeh believes that tomorrow's construction professionals will need more than engineering skills. They must be able to work with AI, interpret data, manage financial and environmental risks, and lead complex projects involving many stakeholders. Rather than replacing people, AI will serve as a tool that helps construction managers make better decisions throughout a project's lifecycle.

Through innovative teaching methods, including experiential learning, global partnerships, and online education, Odeh has helped expand construction management education to students around the world. His goal is to prepare graduates who can lead an industry that is becoming more connected, technology-driven, and focused on building resilient infrastructure for the future.
